It is further recommended that Open Dental users upgrade to version 11.1.x (or newer) of Open Dental at their earliest convenience to take advantage of the latest bug fixes and feature set present in EASy releases marked version 11.1.x and above.

The change will be available in OD Version 11.1.x, which should be released as a beta within the next several weeks.

The new version numbering system will number a series based on the year, with the minor release number being incremental. So, the next released version of Open Dental would be 11.0.x.

We've decided to mirror the Open Dental version numbering system with our release numbers, to prevent confusion.

This procedure should be used only when you are doing an Open Dental version upgrade, in particular a version upgrade (eg., from Open Dental 7.8.18 to Open Dental 7.9.2 ).

The newer upgrade procedure is possible because Open Dental can now be reliable updated from a workstation.

To review, the old procedure was:

1) Update all the client workstations be selecting Anesthesia > Check for Updates

2) Close Open Dental on all the workstations.

3) Select Tools > Database Maintenance and run the DB Maintenance tool

4) Once Database Maintenance has completed, select Manage > Backup and backup your Open Dental database.

5), Update Open Dental from the server only by selecting Help > Update

6) Once the server has been updated, relaunch Open Dental on all of the clients which will push the latest Open Dental update to them.

Here is the new procedure:

1) On any workstation where EASy is installed, select Anesthesia > Check for Updates

2) If this shows that an update is available, install it from this menu once it downloads

3) Once Open Dental has relaunched, select Tools > Database Maintenance and run the DB Maintenance tool

4) Once Database Maintenance has completed, select Tools > Backup and backup your Open Dental database. Close Open Dental on all the other workstations it is running on.

5) Initiate the Open Dental upgrade by selecting Help > Update. This will automatically copy the fresh EASy files to the OpenDentImages/UpdateFiles folder

6) Close Open Dental, then reopen it. Open Dental will tell that it need to optimize tables. (NOTE: This is not the same message as optimizing the tooth chart). Allow the table optimization process to complete. It is very important that this step be allowed to complete before you begin work in EASy, or EASY's database tables may become misaligned.

Once Open Dental brings you to the login screen, you may begin using EASy.

7) Initiate upgrades to Open Dental on all the other workstations and server like you normally would.

What this new procedure does is simpflify the time it takes to upgrade EASy when you are doing a major version change in Open Dental. When this is not the case, EASy will automatically update itself every 7 days or manually when you select Anesthesia > Check for Updates.

We've added the Mallampati Score to the anesthetic record forms:

A higher Mallampati score (range I-IV) corresponds to a more difficult intubation:

 It's available in EASy for Open Dental series 7.9.x and above. To download this update immediately, select 'Check for updates' from the main Anesthesia menu item:

You'll need to have upgraded to Open Dental 7.9 first in order to see these changes.

This capability is available in Open Dental version 7.9.1 and above. Follow these steps to upgrade:

1) Click on 'Check for updates' from the Anesthesia menu item on all workstations were EASy is installed. The latest update will automatically download and install.

2) When Open Dental reopens, upgrade Open Dental to 7.9.1 by choosing Help > Update from the main OD toolbar. Do this from the server.

3) Close and then reopen Open Dental.

Anesthetic record for GA cases

The ability to record inhalational agent start and stop times, ventilator start and stop times, and specifics of intubation has been added. General anesthesia records are available starting with Open Dental 7.7 and higher.

The Anesthesia dropdown menu has been modified to reflect this change:

If you have previously used the Anesthesia module in Open Dental, those records will be found under the Anesthetic Record (IV) menu item. As soon as OD staff adds a programming hook for us, the number of saved records will show:

These skins are available for versions of EASy and TimeOut! compatible with OpenDental 7.6 and above. To add them, just click 'Check for Updates' in either program.

We have released version 7.7 of EASy and TimeOut! This release is compatible with all Open Dental 7.2-7.7 series releases. Version 7.7 includes support for multiuser skins, checking for updates from the main Anesthesia menu item and several bug fixes.

To upgrade from version 7.2 to version 7.7, run 'Check for updates' inside of each of our plugins that you have installed, before you update Open Dental to version 7.7. Do this for each of your workstations. If you have already updated Open Dental to version 7.7, you have two options for upgrading:

Option 1: Open your Open Dental program folder and double click on the wyUpdate.exe file. This will download and install the upgrade for you.

Option 2: Download and run the latest 7.7 installer on all your workstations.

This is necessary because changes to OpenDentBusiness.dll between OD versions 7.5, 7.6 and 7.7 prevent our 7.2 series .dlls from loading at runtime if you are now running Open Dental 7.7.x., and thus the plugin cannot be launched to run the automatic updater.
